Berry Chia Jam

Slow but steady I have been making lots of healthy lifestyle changes lately.Quitting refined sugar for good being one of those changes. But no compromise on my berry jam love!!
This berry chia jam actually involves only 2 ingredients.NO refined sugar, NO pectin/gelatin,NO artificial flavour/colour,NO preservatives.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because brain and muscles need nutrients to function to get through the day, also it helps control cravings later in the day.
Morning intake of berries is clearly a very healthy choice.Berries aren't  the top choice of all the nutritionists and dieticians for no reason.Berries are rich in antioxidants which help the body fight against the oxidative stress caused by free radicals that can lead to illness.Strawberries are rich in vitamin C .Raspberries contains ellagic acid which is said to have anti-cancer properties.Blueberries are rich in vit K and anthocyanins that make memory sharp and delay ageing! Blackberries, acai, goji berries, cranberries all are rich in antioxidants.
Chia seeds, nutrient loaded superfood. Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants and various micronutrients.

I have used frozen berries because they release the liquids easily when mashed and chia seeds absorb the moisture and give the mixture a nice jammy consistency.

Thaw the berries and mash with a fork.

Mix chia seeds keeping a ratio of 2 tbsp for one cup of berries.Add apple sauce/stevia/honey for sweetening it.

Let it sit for 20 minutes while chia seeds gel up.If you mind the seedy texture it can be blended to get smooth consistency.

Just look at the colour!!! It is the most pretty shade of red isnt it!!

It tastes better than the store bought jams in my opinion because it doesn't taste too intensely sugary and artificial.

That is it.Super duper easy and quick and wholesome and healthy.Store in a jar and refrigerate. Enjoy on a crispy toast with nut butter or amp up your boring bowl of oatmeal or layer in your yogurt parfait along with fresh fruits, nuts and seeds.

Weight-loss series: Factors other than Food& Exercise

SLEEP Sleep deprivation can sabotage weight loss. How? Circadian rhythm .It is a biological internal 24hr clock that has a control center in the hypothalamus part of brain and it regulates sleep-wake cycles, hunger timings, heart rates, hormones and enzyme secretions. If the sleep timings are not according to the circadian rhythm ,the metabolism will not function properly. STRESS Stress is directly linked to hormone cortisol which is an anabolic hormone. It directly stores fat and has indirect action through insulin,it raises insulin level which results in drop in blood sugar which leads to sugar cravings/hunger. *Meditation really works!! *Chamomile tea in afternoon or at bed time is a good stress buster. HORMONES Medical conditions like hypothyroidism (lack of thyroxin ),polycystic ovarian syndrome( insulin resistance),cushing syndrome( cortisol excess) ,diabetes mellitus( insulin deficiency/resistance),excess estrogen are obvious culprits for weight gain.
